For a medical device, a field failure isn't just a warranty line item—it's a reputation catastrophe.
It's also about branding. When our customer picks up a finished blood pressure monitor, they don't think about the connector inside. But if that connector fails, they'll remember our company's name, and they'll tell everyone who will listen. The same goes for any product. The small components you choose are part of your brand promise.
I still use a multimeter every day. And I still look for good prices on Samtec connectors. But now I check the distributor's authorization first, and I think about the cost of being wrong. That change in mindset has saved us a lot more than $2,100.
